Assomption Metro takes its name from the street it is located on, L'Assomption bvld which was named to commemorate Pope Pius XII's confirmation of the dogma of the Assumption of Mary in his 1950 apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus. The design of the metro station was done by Duplessis and Labelle and the artistic details were done by Guy Monpetit. The walls were initially supposed to be different colors at each level, but as a last minute addition, they added murals, which also doubled as a way to hide the flaws in the concrete.
