Orion International is a bus manufacturer based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

History

Ontario Bus and Truck was created in Mississauga in 1975, by the government of Ontario. The company was company was mostly created to produce buses for the various transit agencies of the Ontario.

In 1977, Ontario Bus and Truck became known as Ontario Bus Industries.

In 1981, Bus Industries of America was created in the United States. A plant was opened in Oriskany, New York, in 1982. Shortly after, Bus Industries of America and Ontario Bus Industries merged together and were acquired by Western Star Trucks. The new company was renamed Orion Bus Industries.

Orion became a pioneer in matter of technologies, through the years. In 1988, it was the first company to offer the compressed natural gas technology, and they were the first one to offer the diesel-electric hybrid system in 1995.

In July 2000, Orion was acquired by DaimlerChrysler through subsidiary Freightliner, and became part of DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses North America. In 2007 DaimlerChrysler sold Chrysler and became Daimler AG, thus DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses North America became Daimler Buses North America.

In 2009, the name Orion Bus Industries was replaced by Orion International.
